Career Vision Partners with Student Leadership Academies
Leadership academy programs across the country develop selected
groups of high school students into future business and community
leaders. Two local leadership academies have called upon Career
Vision's expertise to conduct sessions on Career Literacy™
topics: Chase Leadership Academy and DuPage Area Student Leadership
Academy.
Chase Leadership Academy is sponsored by JPMorgan Chase,
the global financial services firm. The 30 students are enrolled
in the Academy of Finance in four Chicago high schools, and
meet twice a month from November to April. Through another
academy partner, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, students
are matched with mentors who are employees of JPMorgan Chase,
often supervisors or managers. The interactive sessions are
held on bank premises in downtown Chicago and dress code is
business casual.
The DuPage Area Student Leadership Academy is coordinated
by DuPage County Education-to-Careers and sponsored by local
businesses and community organizations. A variety of educational
programs were offered over four full days throughout the school
year. Eighty students from seven high schools participated,
including Hinsdale Central, Hinsdale South, Westmont, Neuqua
Valley, Waubonsie Valley, Naperville Central, and York High
Schools.
By participating in leadership academies, students gain knowledge
and skills in areas relevant to their future careers in leadership
roles. Topics may include work ethics, diversity, college
preparation and career information, business etiquette, resume
writing, interviewing, networking, time-management skills,
communication skills and teambuilding. Students also have
opportunities to meet and get to know professionals from area
businesses.
Both students and mentors benefit from the leadership academy
relationship. Students receive personal guidance from their
adult role models, while mentors learn to see the world from
a young person's fresh perspective.
Direction.
Decisions. Satisfaction.
