With spring right around the corner many juniors and seniors
are making decisions about the next step in their educational
careers: College.
Career Vision, a not-for-profit organization based in Glen
Ellyn, is hosting an informational seminar at Neuqua Valley
High School to help guide teenagers and their parents through
topics such as picking a college major. Sue Simpson, Regional
Outreach Manager of Career Vision, said finding a college
major that is a good fit for the student is an important task.
"We want to help kids get directed early," Simpson
said. "We try to help figure out good career paths that
are a good match for the student."
"How to Help Your Teen Choose a Motivating College Major"
is at 7 p.m. today in the auditorium at Neuqua Valley High
School, 2360 95th Street, Naperville. The event is free.
The seminar, "How to Help Your Teen Choose a Motivating
College Major," will provide insight to parents as well
as teenagers in how to select a major that is right for the
student. If students don't choose a major right away or don't
choose the right one, they can end up spending more than the
traditional four years to graduate, which can end up costing
either their parents or themselves more money on college tuition,
Simpson said.
Career Vision, a division of The Ball Foundation, has a business
partnership with Neuqua Valley. One Career Vision Advantage
Scholarship will be awarded to a student during the seminar.
At its office in Glen Ellyn, Career Vision offers aptitude
assessments for students to match what they are good at to
a future career.
Simpson said the seminar aims to help inform both the students
and parents about the college process.
"It is important to help the parents understand what
they need to do," Simpson said. "We can help them
figure out career paths and what are good fits."
